Commissioners in Bent, Crowley counties hold public hearing to ask for input on impacts of prisons

BENT COUNTY — Commissioners in Bent and Crowley counties held one of two meetings seeking public input this week on the impacts of prisons in their communities as part of a study required by a House bill that could potentially shut down private facilities. Colorado House Bill 20-1019 deals with "measures to manage the state prison population" that could shut down privately owned prisons depending on the findings of the feasibility study statewide.

Florida boy dedicates 1-mile run to El Paso County deputy who died due to COVID-19

COLORADO SPRINGS — An 11-year-old boy in Florida is dedicating a 1-mile run Wednesday to an El Paso County deputy who died due to COVID-19 earlier this month. Zechariah Cartledge is raising money for Running 4 Heroes, a nonprofit he started when he was just 10 years old, according to the group's Facebook page. Life in prison: Jury finds Patrick Frazee guilty on all counts for the murder of Kelsey Berreth

TELLER COUNTY — A jury has found Patrick Frazee guilty of all 6 counts for the November 2018 death of Kelsey Berreth. The judge went forward with sentencing right after the verdict was read. Frazee was sentenced to the maximum of life in prison without the possibility of parole plus 156 years, plus 5 years with parole for solicitation. TELLER COUNTY — Krystal Kenney was sentenced to three years in prison, the maximum sentence for tampering with evidence, after she made a plea deal with prosecutors to put Patrick Frazee behind bars for the murder of Kelsey Berreth.
